As a result of the ongoing pandemic, and the need for students to sometimes have to be doing Virtual learning from home, many of my students need to have headphones to be able to join our class using their Chromebooks. This insures that they are still receiving instruction while being quarantined. They can also use the whiteboards to work out problems and show me their work. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they sit in the classroom, so they can be more engaged and do their best learning. The products I have selected allow students to sit in a comfortable seat instead of at their desks. I give students many options of places to sit to work in the classroom, and I have noticed that they often work better using these flexible seating options. In order to build a strong classroom community I find that using hands-on learning is the key. We do many activities to provide opportunities to learn to work with others, develop teamwork, and learn social awareness when working together. I have chosen items such as the Magnatiles, and modeling clay that will help me provide those rich social interactions. Many students need help managing their emotions when feeling stressed, or overwhelmed. I already have a Calm Down corner set up in my classroom that students can use for self-regulation. I have chosen some breathing boards, a weighted lap blanket and more sensory items to include in my corner. These will help those students regulate their emotions, relax and refocus so they can return to learning. The light covers will make the classroom a more soothing environment that is conducive to learning. Thank you for considering to help fund my project!
