As I have begged, borrowed, and scrounged for alternative seating for my students by swapping tables for desks and utilizing creative floor seating, the challenge has become finding efficient storage for student materials. The shelf I am requesting holds 42 binders in a small footprint that leaves more room for student to spread out. Classroom design influences student interaction and engagement. I have seen first hand how giving students flexibility and choice in seating, supports collaboration and enhances the learning experience for all. Students are more focused and their energy can now be channeled in a productive way. Flexible seating has created a student-centered classroom.
