My students attend an inner-city school where for the most part they are not afforded the same educational opportunities their counterparts get from other areas of the city. Generally, the students come in at a disadvantage and it becomes increasingly harder to bridge the gap when there are new trends/equipment being used around us and we have extremely limited access to the basic technological advances sweeping through our county. My students, though they come in at a disadvantage, are sometimes able to meet the testing standards that are assessed with their more affluent counterparts. This is done with tireless effort by the teachers. We would like to have the playing field leveled to really show that despite this primary disadvantage, they are able to compete and step ahead of their fellow counterparts who have been privy to the advanced technology and resources.
