My students come from low poverty families. The majority of my students dress themselves in the mornings while taking care of their siblings, and then arrive home in the afternoon to take care of the same siblings. Without the parent interaction, many times study habits to include homework become obsolete, which has an effect on classroom performance. Parent involvement is at an all time low due to parents having to travel to work which is an hour or more away, and to return at late hours in the afternoon. Therefore the job is totally up to the teachers and students. What better way to increase the engagement, delivery of instruction, and retention of information than through enhancing the presentation of the science material. Interactive lessons through technology and art activities such as interactive notebooks, can make this happen. I want this school year to be an epic year by placing Science on a pedestal that is long overdue.
