My students are sweet, wiggly kindergarten kids attending a Title I public school in California. They want to please the teacher, but more than that, they want to be engaged in the activity. I need to be able to keep their attention focused on the task at hand. Many of my students have never experienced a school setting before my class. They need the whole group direct instruction that I provide, but it is tough to try to copy the teacher's handout when you can't see the paper taped to the board! I could provide better instruction for the students with this document camera.
