My school is highly populated with scholars whose main language is Spanish. Our goal is to close the achievement gap by digging deeper with our resources and work continuously to meet the needs of every child. Most of our scholars parents do not speak English however; they are relentless in their desire to help achieve more for the children. In my school we are school teachers not classroom teachers. We work tirelessly every day to make sure we are working for every scholar no matter what grade we teach. These scholars are extremely bright and crave every ounce of learning we provide them. Now that they are in the beginning stages of reading they want to know more and more. One of the most rewarding things about working with these children is seeing their faces light up when they sound out words on their own or read sentences using strategies they've learned in class. More than that it's so precious to see and hear them teach their parents at home the skills they learn in our class.
