This project will give students access to their own personal copy of our class text. It's a great book to start a personal bookshelf. More importantly, having their own copies allows students to annotate as they read, a foundational skill students will need for highschool and beyond. Currently, my students are not allowed to keep or annotate our class texts, which hurts their overall experience of reading and owning a book. The specific book this purchase will fund is Animal Farm, an allegorical novel by George Orwell. The book tells the story of a group of farm animals who rebel against their human farmer, hoping to create a society where the animals can be equal, free, and happy. It will teach them so much about the power of language and the importance of critical thinking.
