My students attend a Title 1 school in NC. I found that it is much easier to teach my students if they are physically grappling with the material. From bringing in cow hearts and brains to hosting a club cell where students act as organelles in a club to building balloon rockets showing Newton's third law, my students have learned to recognize the importance of the scientific method and a science education. Students enter into class daily with questions from outside the classroom which leads me to believe that my students are realizing that learning is a lifetime pursuit. My students show me everyday that the stigma that low income students are not successful is not true and my students' ability to achieve academically rivals, if not surpasses their more affluent peers.
