Organization is a skill we all need...from children to adults. I believe good examples and models start in the classroom. 3rd grade is a great age to start implementing some simple organization skills. They are more independent and aware of their actions and how they can make a difference.
Having an organized classroom can maximize learning time! This benefits everyone! Procedures, routines, and transitions run smoothly in an organized classroom, this allows for more effective teaching!
I know a mail center may sound silly when it comes to the big picture of organization but I feel like it is something fun and exciting for the kids to connect to organization. This communication/mail center will be the start of teaching them them responsibility and organization skills! Each week 3-4 new students will be assigned to work in the mail center. They will be in charge of organizing all papers into their peers mail boxes. They will decided which flyers need to be posted and will explain the papers that are going home and their importance at the end of each day or as needed. If there are paper that need to be signed and returned they will also be in charge of checking them in as they are returned.
Not only will this communication/mail center helped them learn organization, but also the responsibility of time management and communication skills.
