The pandemic has isolated students and this project will enable students to collaborate and grow together while they learn. A greenhouse will enhance my students' interest in the life sciences. We currently have an indoor hydroponic tower garden in the classroom that has been extremely helpful in engaging students and I would like to expand this experience. Students are enjoying the small garden we have and are eating salads (often it's the first time students have tasted lettuce) and salsas they have grown themselves. With the use of the garden, students can actually witness and participate in many of the concepts of biology in a personally meaningful way. It is important for all of my students to have this connection with each other and with the content. Teaching biology through gardening sparks interest and students "buy-in" to the learning. The greenhouse will enable all of my students to participate in growing plants and enjoy learning, while reconnecting with their peers.
