My small town has one public school corporation where I teach third grade. My students come to school eager to learn, which is amazing considering the daily obstacles many of them face. In our school corporation, 54% of students are on a free or reduced lunch program. They are also faced with pressures of standardized testing in third grade. Students who do not pass a specific statewide test are forced to repeat the third grade. This is such a heavy weight on the small shoulders of a nine year old.
