The students that I teach come from families that cannot always provide books at home. Their families do what they can to simply survive and make ends meet. In many cases these students have never held a book in their hand until they have entered Kindergarten. When the students reach me in First Grade they are behind in the basic reading skills they need to succeed in reading.
