Educational practices and curriculum have changed drastically over the past 10 years. Students and teachers are expected to develop collaborative skills based around technology integration as well as increasing literacy skills by third grade. While lofty, I believe these are important skills for any 21st century learner to develop. The issue that arises is the government is unwilling to fund there new initiatives. As a 2nd grade teacher, I am expected to teach young children to work together, use technology, and read fluently within an academic year. I am provided with little literacy supplies and almost no technology. In order to give my students the best shot at reaching these goals, I am in need of literacy materials and new technology.
