I have been given the opportunity to build an Autism program in the middle and high school of a small rural county in Virginia. There are 15-20 students between the middle and high school. These students are in general education inclusion classes, but often have difficulty with organization, social skills, and academic success. Visual reminders work best for these students. With each student's individuality, a wide variety of visuals are being created. Colorful images and words printed on index cards or card stock are just a few of the supports created to help each student to become more independent and successful.
