My students live a rural area with a large Hispanic population. Many of their parents work long hours to support the family. Several are being raised by grandparents. Because of all of these factors, a large number of our students come to school having NOT been read to very often. Research has shown time and again just how crucial it is for children to be exposed to many hours of "laptime". Many of my students have experienced little or none of this.
