The students I get to work with have diverse and unique needs, but each one strives to feel successful and independent. My job is to help provide them with strategies and tools to achieve this. Typically the students are a part of a general education classroom, but come to my room for academic instruction, social/behavior skills, or breaks. I am lucky in that I get to know my students on such a personal and individual basis by spending time with them in a small group setting. I notice the student that seeks out pressure by leaning on others, or the one that desperately tries to stay focused on his work but is constantly distracted by the ticking of the clock. The Re-vibe watch and weighted lap pads will help provide the students with sensory input that can go with them to the classrooms but also be used independently. These weighted lap pads will provide that pressure that some students seek as a calming aide. The watches will be a discreet reminder to regain focus without needing an adult causing negative attention. My hope is that these tools will not only allow students to feel like they can handle being in the general education classroom, but that they belong and can succeed there!
