My students are ELL students from a charter school in California. They come from very low-income neighborhoods, and many of them are from families that have experienced divorce, violence, and abandonment. They have experienced many difficulties, but the majority still have bright and wonderful personalities. Some of them like to read, but many have expressed a dislike for books. One thing they have shown me this year that they are very interested in reading when given good books.
