My wonderful AP Language scholars LOVE reading, but they do not have the access to books that they need to be truly competitive in college. We begin each class day with silent, independent reading, and our upper level high school students need a wide variety of books on their level and beyond to push them to their limits. Students selected 3 books they would love to read, so this list represents their interests, and includes both fiction and nonfiction reading to help prepare them for the rigorous AP Language Exam. Many of my students are for English Language Learners, so our independent reading program pushes mastery of dense and difficult texts that are also of high interest to individual students, as well as exposing them to current and historical events that will strengthen their writing. Independent reading is a cherished time in our classroom, and I want to ensure that EVERY student has a book in their hands that they can't put down! Please consider donating to this project and helping students on their final lap before college. These scholars have an insatiable desire to learn about the world and share ideas, but need to be able to enter the conversation with a solid foundation. Your donation will enable me to supply each child with a book they desire, as well as to prepare them for their future paths. My hope is that they end their senior year with the reading "itch", and of course, become lifelong readers and learners, but most importantly that they will be ready to attack any text in college, and participate actively in their democracy. Thank you!
