The students, 5th graders, who will be using these science materials, are in their final year of elementary school. As their teacher, I am excited in creating memorable moments at school, since they may not have the opportunity at home. Many of them have just been united with one of their parents after being released from prison, while another parent still resides there. Some others take care of younger siblings, while a single parent works to make a minimal income. Many students have responsibilities beyond what most can imagine, and I would like to make school a time for them to just be kids. The school free/reduce lunch rate is 90% and breakfast is a benefit to every student to ensure learning. Despite the circumstances, our classroom is a "no excuses" environment in which everyone is expected to learn and do their very best.
