Classroom hopping has its merits! New school - new challenge. Being an ESL teacher is always an adventure - in this new setting my students range from 3rd to 7th grade and are a truly diverse population. A lottery based school, we also have an influx of English language learners from schools in surrounding areas that have met their ELL quotas. The truly cool thing about ALL my students is how inclusive they are. Truly a rare find among middle schoolers, their kindness and compassion towards each other is remarkable. Yet we still struggle to provide them with a curriculum that is interesting, relevant, and rigorous. Our answer: take the suggested materials and adapt them through projects, discussions and tons of creativity! Unfortunately, creativity requires materials -and that's how you can help! Let's fund a literacy based curriculum that really pushes our kids to be reflective, critical thinkers!
