Having a set of the Wisconsin Fast Plants, a genetics kit, and a plant light house will help students conduct inquiry based investigations in which students gather evidence and develop explanations for the inheritance patterns they observe. Students will be making inferences about genotypes and learning about photosynthesis at the same time. At an urban school, there are seldom opportunities to watch things grow. Giving these students the experience of planting their own seeds, raising them to maturity and continuing the cycle of life will connect them to nature and give them a sense of pride and ownership over their learning.
