My STEM classes are filled with kids who enjoy learning the basics of coding. The problem is they create code on a playground simulation on their iPad, but are unable to physically see how coding is used to manipulate something concrete and hands-on. Students have explored the history of coding, the use of coding and how make a cartoon figure move on a screen, but have not been able to see it work in real life from their own creations. The Sphero Bolt robots are a great introduction for my students. My students will learn how to do event-driven robotics programming using the coding language they are learning. These little robots are fun and not intimidating for new users, but are also sophisticated enough to keep students on the ball!
