Students graduating from our high school or any other high school in Florida are expected to have at a minimum, basic academic skills that can be used as a foundation for further learning. The Exceptional Education student who is completing high school is expected to reach certain academic levels based on their abilities. The CBVE (Community Based Vocational Education) class within the ESE (Exceptional Student Education) program, provides instruction and some hands-on real world for SWD's (Students with Disabilities). This class serves not only as a foundation for academic skills but serves as an extension of real world learning. To maximize real world learning, the classroom will be set up with a series of Learning/Experience Stations. These stations will provide ongoing hands-on activities for the students in the CBVE class. Some examples are: Station #1 - Time Management at Work - Students will learn the purpose and proper use of a Work Punch Clock. (This skill, once mastered will become a requirement for entrance and exit into the class, as an ongoing activity). Station #2 - Office Skills - Alphabetizing Papers - Students alphabetic and numeric skills are honed by organizing various documents using a strip/slot alphabetizer. Students with disabilities require redundant activities such as this to solidify basic skills. Station #3 - Office Skills - Mail Sorting - Using a multi-slotted mail organizer, students will learn how to sort mail alphabetically by name, department, etc. Skills such as this are not just office skills but are considered practice in sorting. These stations listed above, along with others will also broaden required work maturity skills, which are needed in the real world. Striving to solidify strong foundations for work, students will take away needed skills.
