My students are English Language Learners. Some were born in the United States and some have been here less than a week. Due to time constraints, teachers have had to combine social studies with literacy and the texts that we have been given are not at a level that my students can read and comprehend. I would like to expose my students to current events that are happening in our country and allow them to have the text be at an instructional level so that they are learning new vocabulary, but are not so frustrated that they never want to read English again. The Time for Kids Readers will expose my students to these events and allow them to strengthen their vocabulary and reading comprehension at the same time.
