My school student body is mostly make up of minority students where they are the first generation Asian-American. Academia is their family's first priority at school. Most parents are working class with not much time spend with their children. The expectation from home is high, but the support is low. Most parents see the arts program as an extracurricular class without much value; however, most students find pride in the choir program. Choir is not just a class for them, but it is a place where they can express themselves and find a sense of belonging. It is a team effort to strive for choral excellence. And for most students, it is their first time exploring and performing classical music. It opens their eyes to a new music world and expands their arts horizon.
