Due to COVID, we have found that students have gaps in their education, and some of those are substantial learning gaps. In order to get our students ready for their end of year testing, as well as life in general, we are striving for a greater focus on literacy. In an ever- changing world, we have found that students need to know how to learn through hands-on materials, as well as virtually. This is the reason for my need of headphones, classroom book sets, manipulatives, and white board essentials. Head-phones allow students to listen to books and stories being read to them; learn about grammar and syntax, among a multitude of other subjects; and prepare for their end-of-year testing, which is taken on a computer. Class books bring excitement and joy into the students' lives as they escape into another world, outside of their own. Books also improve students' literacy through continued exposure to text. Literacy is a life-long skill needed by all people, and where better to start than with classic books that we all loved as children. Not only is literacy reading words on a page, but it is also knowing how to navigate the world around you using math. The manipulatives I have requested are to helping students become literate in their math world, especially with money and fractions, which are used on a daily basis. In addition to those manipulatives, we use white boards and markers in every lesson, as we check for student understanding.
