I teach Kindergarten in a Title 1, low income school, with a high ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) population. 100% of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch and most come from a bilingual household. Many students within our county have transitional living situations with families moving in and out of the area often. My students' households have very few educational resources and sometimes little or no parent involvement because they need to work multiple jobs. My students love playing to learn in small group centers. Most of my students begin Kindergarten below level, identifying very few alphabet letters, but become very motivated to read! My students are good at using technology and the SMARTboard is one of their favorite activities. For many of my students this is their first time in school and I want to make it as fun and engaging as possible for a great foundation into learning!
