As an international center, our school has more than half free and reduced lunch rates. We have high minority populations and growing poverty rates. In our community, childhood obesity on the rise, the Forerunners will aide our students in seeing their own activity levels in the course of a day or action. When paired with science inquiry and health lessons, the benefits of exercise and taking care of students' health will become apparent to the student. We hope to work together to promote overall wellness and fitness to reverse the following trends, reported by the CDC: 1. Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years. 2. The percentage of children aged 6â€Â"11 years in the US who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 20% in 2008. 3. In 2008, more than one third of children and adolescents were overweight.
