I have a class of energetic, inquisitive second graders who absolutely LOVE story time. Even my most reluctant readers slowly edge their way closer to the book so they can point out words, draw attention to a particular character or share a connection with the story. We have spent a great deal of time discussing how to choose "Just Right Books" and that has been time well spent. I wish you could see my students sprawled around the room, absorbed in a story, sharing a book with a friend. Every new story I read quickly becomes a treasure in a child's chair pocket (where they keep their books) and everyone eagerly awaits their turn with the book. We are a rural school and the families are mostly mid to low income, so many of my students have few books of their own. Our school library is small and often children have to wait a long time for certain titles to be available. Getting more books into their hands is a passion of mine!
