Our school is located in central Arkansas. It is a Title I school, meaning there are a lot of low-income students and families. My students often lack supplies or have few resources available to them. I have 12 amazing autistic students in my classroom ranging from K to 2nd grade who impress me every single day with how much they know but aren't able to tell us. This is because many students with Autism often have a hard time verbalizing and telling us what they are thinking. This deficit often prevents us as teachers or caregivers from seeing how much they really know and understand. I have found, however, that every one of my students benefits from interaction with technology. They are deserving students that desperately need electronic tablets in order to access apps specifically designed for students with Autism or other special needs that will enable them to communicate more effectively.
