My intent with this project is to maximize student spaces within the classroom, create student choice, and develop increased engagment in the classroom. Flexible seating creates an active learning environment in which students “become incredibly responsible” as teachers ease up on the need to have total control of the classroom. It allows for easier collaboration amongst students to aide in making learning experiences more personal. The goal is to create a more learner centered environment where the teacher can move as a facilitator from student-to-student or group-to-group. This 21st Century, flexible seating classroom, will provide opportunities for an individual space should the student need time to work indepently, ease of mobility for small groups, PBL partnerships, reconfiguration for open floor space, and ease of regrouping to whole group. My hope is to provide a warm, inviting and comfortable, yet modern and engaging classroom environment that offers student choice. Thank you for considering my students and our classroom.
