Oak Ridge Elementary is a Title 1 school with a free breakfast and lunch program. Most of my students come from challenging and unstable home environments. At Oak Ridge, we teach the whole child through our Social Emotional Learning learning or SEL. SEL teaches children how to understand and manage their emotions, set and achieve goals for themselves, establish positive relationships, and feel and show empathy for others. Our school provides a safe learning environment for them to make responsible decisions regarding their relationships and life decisions. We do this through explicitly teaching strong character traits, literature based themes, home visits, and strengthening the relationship between home and school .
