A little boy ran down to the library with tears on his face, and anger in his heart. His emotions were bundled up inside and he didn't know what to do. He was running because of lots of different things and didn't know how to calm down on his own, and his instinct was to flee. As the librarian, I know that the library is the heart of the school and tends to be a "quiet" place where students can go. After watching several students at our school "flee" to the library from their emotions and circumstances, I knew that something needed to happen. Then it clicked, "what if I was to create a safe, quiet, and still area in the library for students to go to when they needed to gather their emotions and be still for a moment. Our school is full of students that have had tons of trauma in their lives. Our students need an area that can be a place where they can escape safely to. With your help, an area in the library will be that place; a place to go to when they need to express their emotions, a place they can go when they need just to sit quietly. This might be the only place where they can be mindful and enjoy being still.
