My students attend a special education integrated classroom in a public elementary facility. They are third, fourth and fifth graders with challenging disabilities, but with enormous willpower to work hard. Mastery of the material is a very slow process for my students. I have high expectations for my students and given support, encouragement, and follow through, they grow cognitively and emotionally. They need to overcome many hurdles to succeed, from low expectations for success, access to appropriate learning material, inclusion in the general school environment, and acceptance and understanding from their peers.
