The materials that are received from this grant will allow students the opportunities in school to connect with science, technology, engineering, and math through hands on and exploratory learning. They will be able to use magnets to see how force fields work and how the world fits together with the Magnetic Earth model. They will use building materials from the I Can Build It! Architecture Set and Bridge Building Engineering Center to get a realistic approach on how buildings around them are constructed. This will allow them to see there is planning and design involved. It will also increase the further understanding of the engineering process. Students will be granted a hands on learning experience that will captivate and motivate effective communication with their peers. By using Learn to Code Ladybug, which will offer students the chance to see how basic computers work. Students will be able to use pair programming to create codes for the ladybug and watch will maneuver around the classroom. Students will see that computers and robots can start out as basic commands, but build to more complex systems as they continue to add more instructions. Students will get a hands on approach to basic computer programming by adding more tasks to the systems they use. This will increase their higher order thinking skills and understanding of visual sequencing. By using pair programming students will learn social and emotional skills by working in partner groups to complete various challenges and tasks.
