Everyday, students in my classroom engage in writing. Writer’s Workshop is a safe and creative environment that allows ELL students, novice writers and advanced students to utilize their knowledge where they can apply writing strategies such as: grammar, writing conventions, and subject content knowledge. While students exercise writing strategies in the form of a workshop model on a daily basis, the text resources become a strong tool for my early writers, especially during the nonfiction-writing unit. The resources become a database where students can gather data, collect information, and draw inspiration. Therefore, providing students with resources to Time for Kids magazine and the Country Study Nearpod kit will expand the writing topics, and advance the ability to research. As a result, it will strengthen student experience with creating informative text during Writer’s Workshop while adding rigor to the curriculum in our high achieving classroom.
