In my special education classroom, we do various hands-on activities. Our students have very low academic levels, therefore struggle with completing work on their grade level. With the theme boxes we are requesting, we will be able to teach life skills and science lessons, such as "The Five Senses," The "Life Cycle," "Growing Things," and "Health and Safety." These boxes will allow us to work closely with our students in small groups. Not only do manipulatives make learning more enjoyable for our students, they make abstract concepts become concrete. Due to their disabilities, some of our students struggle with basic fine motor skills. Having these manipulatives in the classroom will benefit them tremendously. It will help them stay focused and interested on the subject they are learning.
