My students are amazing. Most of my students live below the poverty level for Texas. The only meals they may eat that day are at school. They wear hand-me-down clothes. Not one of those previous statements keeps my students from being happy. My students love to come to school because they are excited to explore new things that they otherwise would not have had the privilege to do so. The school they attend is in a rough neighborhood and the school is broke. We are very fortunate if the student even brings pencils to school. Most of the supplies in the classroom are ones the teacher has purchased. These students are some of the hardest working kids I have ever met. They work for the things they are given and take special care of the things because stuff means more to them. They never know if they will get to experience that moment again so they cherish it. They truly are an amazing group.
