My students come from one of most desolate towns in the United States. They come to our school in need of our help in achieving their dreams and we meet them with open arms. My classroom consists of adolescents with dreams; dreams that they fear may never be reached. The poverty, violence, and drugs of the culture that surround them create a daunting hill of opposition. Our school helps create a stairway for our students to propel forward in reach of their castles in the sky. These students come to my classroom sometimes very rough around the edges. They test me; they need to know I am strong enough to handle their pain. In the end, to see their smiles at graduation, to know our hard work has paid off, makes every day in the classroom worthwhile. My students are entering a world of technology; technology that has been kept just out of their grasp by poverty. I teach juniors and seniors in high school who have very little or no access to computers outside of school.
