I have an amazing group of students who face challenges that they should not have to at their age. They are part of the Montbello community in Denver, Colorado, which has had a history (in the past decade) of failing schools. As a result, my 9th and 10th grade students are arriving to high school reading and doing math between a kindergarten and 7th grade reading and math level. Although this is the unfortunate reality, my students are extremely intelligent and are catching up quickly.
