As a Spanish teacher, I am constantly trying to think of ways to engage my students and to invest them in learning another language. Their community generally lacks the diversity that would expose them to other cultures and other worlds, so I am challenged to find other ways to introduce them to a world outside of their own. Every day, I try to convey to 140 high school students the importance of learning another language and understanding other cultures' perspectives. Ultimately, I strive to convince them that Spanish is relevant to their lives despite the fact that they have little opportunity to travel beyond their own community.
