I am teaching kindergarten now for the second year in a row. My students are between the ages of 5 and 6. They are 98% Hispanic and come from a very poor neighborhood. 90% of the students in my school have free or reduced lunch because their parents are not working or have low income jobs. A majority of my students start the school year not even knowing the alphabet, but leave fluently reading leveled text. Although these students come from home situations that are not ideal, they still have the need, desire, and eagerness to learn. Please help me supply the right amount of books at the right levels for these fresh new minds entering my classroom each year.
