My Elementary School is a pre-kindergarten through 8th grade Chicago Public School. Despite the fact that 90% of the students are on the free lunch program, we still rank among Chicago’s top elementary schools based on standardized test scores. In my 8th grade mathematics classroom, my students undergo a curriculum that includes all of the concepts of a high school Algebra I class. The aim of this unit of study entitled “The Algebra of Supply and Demand" is to allow students to make a real world connection between algebra and economics.
