My group of four-year-old children loves to sing. This particular Pre-K group is made up of immigrant children from Indonesia, Mali, Thailand, Puerto Rico, Taiwan, the Dominican Republic, and urban New York. The school is totally under-resourced, but the children are like children everywhere--charming, innocent, and eager to learn. This group absolutely loves to sing. For that reason, I want to ramp up the level of English literacy for the children by writing out the lyrics to the songs and pointing to the individual words as we sing.
