All my students are second language learners, they do not get English language support at home. Most are not read or sang to, so that makes it very hard for them to develop phonemic awareness or literacy skills. My students are all emergent readers, but some are having difficulty with phonemic awareness. My school is in the inner city and all parents are below the poverty level, so they have limited resources at home. My students are enthusiastic learners, but like all emergent readers, they require constant reinforcement and review of reading skills.
