The digital divide is greater than ever, as my inner city kids often have no access to computers, and have never done a power point presentation. Many of the technologies and skills that colleges and careers assume are a part of youth culture are actually inaccessible to low-income urban youth. Most of my students receive free lunch, and come in with very low skills, including about 30% of our students receiving special education services. These students deserve the same training as students with more resources at home or in school. By linking students to technology, my students will be empowered with new skill sets and new ways of thinking about history and the world around them.
