My students have a current Individual Education Plan or IEP. They have different disabilities that require differential teaching methods, and when their eyes light up because they grasped a concept, it's exciting for everyone. My students are 6th graders that live within the city and many live in government housing. They play video games, listen to music, are familiar with the Internet, and social networking. Some are into sports, like neighborhood basketball, or just playing outside. They attend a public school that has 95% of students on free and reduced lunch. They are fortunate to attend a school where their best interests come first where educators strive to find that one strategy, that one connection to help our students understand the standards as well as appropriate social skills.
