Teaching an active, funny, and loving group of first graders is my daily job, and also what I love to do! I teach first grade in a low-income area in the state of California. Our school has population of about 80% English language learners, challenging us as teachers to teach them the English language as well as all other subjects. Our school is a full inclusion school, meaning that any special needs students are kept in the classroom full-time and have access to all grade level material as well as specific help in areas where they need additional support. Out of my classroom of 20 students, 80% of them are English Language learning students (either Hispanic or Pacific Islander). I also have two high need special education students in my classroom, both with autism. All of these things lead to a challenging environment for these students, and a great desire to reach the needs of all of these students.
