I need your help in supporting our future! Who knows? We might just have an influential leader in my school who needs to play a musical instrument in order to inspire him or her to put their words down on paper to save the world someday! My hard working students are attending a high poverty building. Like so many communities in America right now, we have been besieged by cuts in funding to education. Our town is devastated by high unemployment as well. The crisis of our economic situation here has roped us into a vicious cycle of the lack of materials at school for our students. Music is a core class that reaches across the curriculum and inspires self-esteem, critical thinking, and discipline. I want to be able to increase our students' brain growth by having all third graders in my building learn to play the recorder. This simple instrument will give them skills that they can use in the regular class room: confidence, critical thinking, and discipline in learning.
