Our class is an Early Education class that ranges from kindergarten to second grade. This year, I have students with Autism, Other Health Impairment, and Specific Learning Disability. Most of our students are Hispanic, English Language learners, and qualify for free lunch. As a teacher and a school, we want to provide the best learning to meet each individual need. Every day I know that my day will look different from the last and that ‘s how it is working with students with special needs. Their desire to learn is there. However, finding ways to help them understand everyday lessons to problem solve and reach a desired outcome is what might look different than other students in general education. And when they reach that desired outcome, it brings a giant smile to their face that is priceless. We want to continue building on those skills and having the materials to help support hands-on learning is what will give them the opportunity to succeed.
